We will be holding our final Help Me Retire investor workshop of 2024 in a few weeks – and we would love to have you join us!

Many investors are surprised when they discover that their portfolio returns aren’t entirely driven by the investments they own, or when they buy them. When it comes to your financial success, your own behavior as an investor is often more important than the investments you own.

The good news is that how you respond to challenging market conditions is completely within your control. The bad news is that controlling your emotions isn’t so easy!

In this workshop – “Behaving Your Way to Wealth” – I will show you 12 ways to use your brain to become a better investor. I’ll help you avoid some of the most common unforced mental errors I see investors make every day. And I’ll teach you how to build a portfolio you can stick with when times are good and bad.

So circle the date – Saturday, November 9 – and make plans to join us for coffee, a light breakfast, and some ideas you’ve probably never considered when it comes to investing for and in retirement.

As a Wealth and Wisdom subscriber, you’ll be getting a personal email invitation to this workshop. But seating will be limited, so act quickly when you receive it. We look forward to seeing you!

You’ve probably heard that next year’s inflation increase will be 2.5%. Other adjustments are coming as well.  (Reading time: 4 minutes)

There are at least three circumstances where it makes sense to claim Social Security before the maximum age of 70.  (Reading time: 3 minutes)

Now’s the time to consider changes in your coverage plan and prescription drug coverage. We’ve put together some tips to get you started.  (Reading time: 2 minutes)

If you’ve read my book – Your Way to True Wealth – these ideas should make perfect sense to you.  (Reading time: 7 minutes)

Financial success should be easier if you can just avoid these common mistakes.  (Reading time: 5 minutes)

“Sequence-of-returns” risk can damage your portfolio if negative returns come early in retirement – but other times, it can actually help you.  (Reading time: 4 minutes)

America’s economy is often described as “the cleanest shirt in the dirty clothes hamper” – but when it comes to debt vs. other major nations, we’re at the bottom.  (Reading time: 3 minutes)

Did you really think those expensive replacement windows would pay for themselves?  (Reading time: 6 minutes)

Getting away from screens – even for short periods – can save you money, time, and sanity.  (Reading time: 4 minutes)

Investors should consider, before investing, whether the investor’s or the designated beneficiary’s home state offers any tax or other benefits that are only available for investment in such state’s 529 savings plan. Such benefits include financial aid, scholarship funds, and protection from creditors. There is also a risk that these plans may lose money or not perform well enough to cover education costs as anticipated. Most states offer their own 529 programs, which may provide advantages and benefits exclusively for their residents. The tax implications can vary significantly from state to state.

Additionally, each converted amount may be subject to its own five-year holding period. Converting a traditional IRA into a Roth IRA has tax implications.
